Another odd poem!

November 25th, 2008 — 6:33pm

So, quick background on this so people don’t think I’m going too nuts. I was in Towson University’s library, doing some Alan Watts reading. Out of the blue, the weirdest idea flew into my head. I don’t know what it was, but it was one of those “where the heck did THAT come from?!”, and then I thought a poem on weird ideas might be different. It just kind of happened in 4 minutes of writing.

Weird Ideas
by Tim Habersack

Weird ideas are entering my mind,
Weird ideas are beginning to find
a foothold in my fragmented thoughts,
and starting to erode my old mental locks.

Weird ideas are bouncing around,
Weird ideas have loosened the bounds
of the madman residing within,
he’s testing his freedom and starting to grin.

Weird ideas are changing my views,
Weird ideas now alter what’s true.
I’m doing things now that make no sense,
Running towards madness, I’ve crossed the fence.

Weird ideas are all that remain,
Weird ideas have made me insane.

haiku, 11.17.08

Posted by mobile phone:
Wind whisps his black shroud,
Slowly walking towards your doom.
Alone in the crowd.

Online Board Gaming, a web app idea

November 17th, 2008 — 8:28pm

A site designed to easily allow two people to play one of a number of classic board games as simply as possible on the web.

How to get started:

  • Go to the site, choose the game you wish to play, average length between turns and the emails of the two players.
  • Confirmation emails are now sent, one to each player.
  • When both are confirmed, the site sends back links to that players ‘seat’.
  • A ‘seat’ is a long generated php name that instantly puts the user into that players control of the game, no login required.
  • If you go to your seat, and it is your turn, you can take your turn, then it will say, ‘waiting for other player’
  • If you go to your seat and it is not your turn, there is just a ‘waiting for other player’ message.
  • If the other player hasn’t taken their turn, you can ‘nudge’ the other player once per the avg length between turns that was set out at the beginning.
  • At the end of the game, users can go in for up to two weeks and export all the moves into a CSV file, that can be put into a ‘move player’ at the main site for review.

Why this is a good idea:

  • There are no accounts to setup, no information stored.
  • The ease in which you can setup a game should bring in a lot of fringe players, even older people.

Mobile Weather 1.1

November 12th, 2008 — 8:14am

Mobile Weather is a simple WAP page designed to easily allow a user to check their local weather, and receive a three day forecast. No data is stored on the site, everything is done in the URL. To use:

-Go to: http://hithlonde.com/forecast on your cell phone or other mobile device.
-Enter your zip code, or any zip code you want to know about.

And that is it. A page will be displayed showing the current weather conditions, and a three day forecast. It is recommended you bookmark the page, so you don’t have to enter your zip code every time. Refresh the page for up to date weather information.

Mobile Weather is WML-based which, although isn’t always pretty, should be compatible with nearly every cell phone or mobile device. One exception to this is the iPhone, which doesn’t support WML. The weather data comes from weather.com.

From Fox News, on Palin’s Ineptitude

November 6th, 2008 — 7:23am

Apparently she wasn’t aware that Africa was a continent, or who was in NAFTA..

What I think makes me the most pissed is the “I wish I could have told you, but it was all off the record until after the election”. See, I consider concrete examples of the VP candidate’s lack of knowledge and emotional instability to be quite critical to the election.

Fox News post-election

UPDATE: So, apparently, this news was fabricated. At least, the person who was supposed to have heard this doesn’t exist. I assumed since it was from Fox, and they bleed republican, they wouldn’t have reported on something like this unless they had checked it out.

A good autumn weekend.

November 3rd, 2008 — 12:46pm

I did all sorts of fun things this weekend. Saturday I woke up and for some weird reason was motivated to clean. I cleaned the kitchen, and actually scrubbed the sink. I don’t know what came over me.

In the afternoon, I went up to the Uncle’s house and met up with my cousin Dina. It was such a pretty day, and oddly warm out that we went for a short hike. I took the camera, and many pictures were taken.

Pics from the hike.

Then we went back, and I visited with everyone for a bit. Later, Mike and I went to Towson University to see Dido & Aeneas, which is a short opera. I really enjoy hearing a live orchestra, and the opera was actually pretty interesting and well done. Afterward, we went back to the house, and it was social time.

I stayed up there all day Sunday as well. Had some great cinnamon rolls for breakfast, then hung out with Christian mostly all day. We played lots of poker. Around dinnertime, Mike and I made the pilgrimage to Maria’s Pizza, where you can get an extra large cheese pizza for under $6. It is a magical place. After, we watched “The Phantom Menace”, where I remembered why Qui-Gon is my favorite jedi. Then we saw “The Prestige”, which was really good.

Then I made it home and went to bed. A good weekend, filled with social happenings. I am refreshed and ready to be productive this week.
